Why do some lenses cost 10 times as much when the specs are very close? What does "sagitally" mean? (perhaps link to a definition?). Best I found was "in the direction from dorsal to ventral", which doesn't help. |

Why don't most cameras support PNG format? Lack of EXIF data would be "seen as a negative" by photographers? Bah! These young digital photographer whipper-snappers! In my day, photographers used film and knew what a negative really looked like! :-) |

Why does a higher-end camera body like the Nikon D700 cost so much? @Marcin, oh I see where we were at odds now. I was talking about technology exclusively used in higher-end cameras. Larger sensors, case-design, customising software, flash interfaces, factory fitout, support processes, etc. For the technology in common, I agree with you. (Note: Still not suggesting that there isn't even MORE R&D involved in getting other features into the smaller footprint of compacts.) |

Why does a higher-end camera body like the Nikon D700 cost so much? @Marcin, I worded my answer carefully to avoid suggesting that there is more R&D involved in the specialist cameras. Instead, I am arguing R&D costs per unit sold are higher. |

What's the recommended off camera flash setup for Canon and Sunpak flash combination? Are you sure that the 430EX II can be triggered by the 40D's pop-up flash? I thought it needed a line-of-sight infra-red signal from a 580EX or similar. |

Why do images get “corrupted”? Some computer cases have USB ports on the front and other ones on the back. Whichever side failed, try the other side. Sometimes devices can be strangely sensitive to this, for reasons I cannot explain. |

Why is 1:1 desirable for a macro lens? Sure, but why is "true macro" so special? Imagine 1:0.9 or a 1:1.1 lenses. Both could "truly enlarge and enhance real world detail in print". 1:1 = True Macro seems to be an arbitrary metric, and not intrinsically any more desirable than nearby and/or even more powerful magnifications. |

Why do my photos look better on an iMac? @Reid, yes, we are agreeing. The Dell desktop can display nice images with the right display. It isn't a fundamental issue with Windows or Dell; it is an issue of which display has been purchased. I am using a nice Dell-branded LCD display which I paid a little more for. |

Should I be worried about ownership of photos taken on my camera by others? If you knew the photo was taken by the friend, I have to agree that his permission for the publication needs to be sought. Which doesn't mean you don't get a cut. After all, without your co-operation, he doesn't have any photo at all. One the tricky area is what if you think you took the picture? The other tricky area, it seems to me, is what permissions were implicitly given to you when the transaction was made. |

Your girlfriend's situation is quite different to what I was thinking. As to people's personal responsibility for breakages, that comes under the "many other issues" that explicitly ignored. |

Does a camera tethered draw power over USB? I ordered a cheap knock-off to the Canon ACK-E2 when I saw the first responses. Arrived before my photo-shoot, and once all the plugs and cables where duct-taped together to stop them falling out, it solved the problem perfectly. |
