What the best telephoto zoom lens for everyday use with a Canon 7d with a $2500 budget? My bad - I guess when I said "I tend to shoot outdoors / landscapes / nature significantly more than I do portraits." I thought I made my point - but I see from the responses...there's NOTHING about saying you shoot nature or outdoors that signifies anything specific about the lenses you use....You're 100pct correct. Sorry about that. |

What the best telephoto zoom lens for everyday use with a Canon 7d with a $2500 budget? I do appreciate all of the replies - but I was really looking for something in the 200-400mm range. I know my definition of "everyday" differs from most - but I tend to keep extended zooms on my cam most of the time. Now i'm leaning towards the 24-105, and a 100-400. Not sure what i'm going to do - but i take virtually no portraits - and even on my 28-135 lens, I seldom shoot anything below 100mm |

Which is the better lens: Canon 28-105 or 28-135? Thanks - I guess my original question wasn't clear. But you seemed to have answered it. In the same way that people can say, with great certainty, that the 24-105 is optically a much better lens than a kit lens, I was hoping there would be an "optically-based" answer for my question - but I like your answer. When experimenting just isn't enough? Thanks Pat - exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. I've been reading the manual and editing every setting, while shooting something stationary, so I can see how simple changes impact the photo. I'll stick with it. |
