I don't believe you can lay perfectly still enough. I suggest a tripod.

comment How to convert a dull monochrome photograph into a sharp black and white photograph with great contrast?
In my opinion, that's far too much sharpening; hence the over-processed look. I suggest Radius 3 and Amount 0.25. I'd also reduce the contrast boost to 10 or less.

I would certainly look at blown highlights as a factor.

comment Nikon D3 - Cycling of aperture values
If the aperture was fixed at f/2.8 and the shutter speed remained as set by you, how did the exposure change? Does the EXIF information hold any clues? Did the ISO change? Does it perform as expected if you set the ISO to fixed instead of auto?

comment How can I remove brightness from the bottom of a concave plate?
I think the issue is reflection from the light at the window. Please try the same shot with the window blocked or at night and then compare.

comment Is the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8D ED outdated?
I am happy with mine: flickr.com/photos/chili5558/8757083179/in/photostream/lightbox Having said that, it is a bit heavy and, if I were buying today, I'd also consider the 70-200mm f/4.

comment Why did I get blurry star trails?
@laurencemadill Very few lenses focus accurately to infinity when set to infinity.

comment Lenses round ..Photographs square shaped why?
@OlinLathrop Because it is much easier to make a square or rectangular canvas stretcher than round. craftsy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/step03.jpg

comment D7100: How to adjust default settings?
That's not how I read his statement: "Specifically I would prefer to set the default quality to RAW instead of normal large JPEG."
