comment How can I take pictures of active children with a DSLR in low light?
Are you taking "action shots" of the kids or are these more or less static/group shots?

Not really a good option for fast-moving subjects like kids. At f1.8, you're going to go crazy trying to keep the focus tack-on for such a short depth of field.

comment Do photographers avoid using zoom?
@mattdm: I spend a huge amount of my time trying to keep the focus point on the eyes. I'm gonna have to turn that on and try it out! Thanks for the tip!

comment Can I make commercial use of an image which is readily available but with unclear licensing?
Using someone else's work for profit shifts the terms considerably. Using an image on a personal webpage may be overlooked. Using it to make money can easily become an expensive lawsuit.

comment Is it possible to change depth of field in RAW images?
Thank you for these additional details. I hadn't really considered how DoF changes due to these post-exposure factors.

comment Nikon MC-DC2 Remote dangerous?
In many instances, yes, it's meaningless. In your case, it is providing you with helpful information: the device contains lead. It's now your job to learn how much lead is in there, how lead affects you and at what level. The old saw, "The dose makes the poison" applies here. In short, don't let the kids chew on it and move on.
