Good for you Jon. I also got the same issue before. It took me a week before I found out about the diffuser. Now I only use my YN as a slave.

@MikaelCrozat - sorry but I didn't find any solution for this. I just bought a Phottix Mitros flash as a replacement.

wow.. you must have a really bad copy @Mikael Crozat. Mine was good at first. Only went bad after 7 months. No solution found yet.. planning to buy an original canon flash. I don't trust 3rd party flashes anymore.

comment What apertures are required to enable autofocus, including cross-type or high-precision focusing, on Canon DSLR cameras?
Ah. thanks! I was wondering a while back why the 1D won't AF at f8. Now I know.. Cheers!

@DragonLord: oh sorry, let me rephrase. So a camera won't auto focus if you have a lens that has a smaller aperture than the one you specified? like f8, f10 etc... Please correct me if I'm wrong. hehe.

I just wanna clarify something.. when you say "Canon DSLRs require a maximum aperture of at least f/5.6 to autofocus". That means the camera won't auto focus if you have a lens that has a bigger aperture than that, right? sorry, i'm new to this..

comment Can I capture only a particular colour with a Canon 650D?
Touchscreen, compatibility to STM lenses and video. first canon slr that can auto focus while video recording. I just wish 650D came with a copy of angry birds. hehe.

comment Have inkjet prints surpassed chemistry-based paper prints in terms of color gamut?
I had an almost similar experience to this. soft proofing was great, test prints were great, but photo lab print was terrible. At first I thought it was me, then I found out that the photo lab technician was doing his own color correction to my image. That's when i discovered the phrase "print as is". hehe.

comment What are the easiest (and best) solutions for avoiding a blown out background for a portrait?
I also experienced this on my super amateur phase. I always tried forcing this shot instead of simply asking my subject to move to another spot or use a flash/reflector.
