comment Sigma 150-500 f/5-6.3 vs Sigma 50-500 f/4-6.3 for birds in flight?
Nick. As the 50-500 is more expensive than the 150-500 I require advice as to what benefits I would gain from buying the 50-500 rather than the 150-500. My wife has lenses from Macro to 300 (all Canon) and the Sigma has been recommended by friends as an alternative to the Canon 400 and the much more expensive 500.

comment What size lens is recommended for flying bird photography?
Had a look at the Sigma Bigma John, whilst in Australia, I was very tempted as the price was very competative. I am still thinking about the Cannon 400mm, its only money thats stopping me. I think I will probably buy the Canon 7 D first then move on to a better lens later.

My wifes lenses stop arround 300 and the next step up in lenses appears to be a mighty step indeed, have you any suggestions on this (do you think I should ask another question regarding this?

Thanksyet again jrista. Had a look at the 7D on Amazon, I may save up in order to get the awesome present you suggest. Just wondered if the lenses that fit the 450D would also fit the 7D?

Thanks Winston and Matt, I certainly will take your advice and look at the previous questions on ISO speed. I should also look a little closer at the information supplied with my wifes camera. Sounds as if "Auto" would be the best setting for someone just starting to learn the "art" of photography

Thanks James, I believe we will give "photobox" a go, before trying anything else.

comment What are the pros and cons of lab prints versus using a printer?
Certainly Matt, your proceedures are the simplest outlined. Certainly we will be experimenting with your method prior to making any decision to purchase an expensive printer and all that goes with it.

Thanks jrista, once again you have supplied me with the information for making a measured decision. We have not yet decided if we need prints above 8.5"" by 11". I see your equipment allows you to go well beyond this. Is there an equivalent quality Canon Pixma printer as small as this?
