comment Gimp GEGL Tutorial for Photographers?
You can do imaging operations in a reversible manner, even after saving and re-opening. At this time GIMP's GEGL operations are in a single Menu (Tools/GEGL operation...) without much grouping, and some operations don't work so well. I just tried the "Rotate" operation, and the values were pre-poulated with idiotic defaults (after setting them manually it works). Still it is a usability nightmare, and maybe someone has worked out a set of clever customizations and best practices.

comment Gimp GEGL Tutorial for Photographers?
No, not a software development question, I just want to use GEGL-enabled GIMP features, as an end user interested in photo editing

comment Is RAW conversion with Google+ as good as Google claims?
The Picasa team is quite competent as well, I guess. In Google's business strategy for the social media division, it is probably essential to offer photo editing tools to customers. In order to compete with facebook and flickr, photo content management is really important.

but there is no stand-alone raw converter product in the Nik suite, or is it? Maybe they had some libraries included, or the acqui-hired Nik developers were given the task to write "cloud based" raw-converters.

comment A/D conversion, processors marketed less actively than sensor characteristics?
it started with me noticing that A/D conversion does not get much attention in the marketing literature (see title of the question), although this step is important and should get more attention, probably. As I was writing this, the problem became more involved and it became two questions

okay, admitted, the chain is indeed marketed and hyped, but the A/D converter step does not get much attention in the corporate PR material and tech-doks.

comment How should one best manage large collections of photographs?
You should make clear in the title that the question is about a single-user scenario. A scenario company-wide picture-repository will need a different solution

comment have accidentally taken 130 RAW shots with ISO sensitivity 10000, all noisy, now what?
Great link! I really like the first sentence of the article: "to summarize the current situation in dt: we have a lot of cool tools wrapped around great algorithms with almost all the knobs you need to get perfect results. while you can actually get really great results it's this sheer number of knobs that makes finding a good parameter set quite a time consuming task. " Now let's see if I can create a profile for my Olympus E-P5.

@mattdm the question+answer in Q "Are there any good open source noise removal tools?" is from 2010, Q has few specific answers, and the question is too general. I asked about Darktable OR Lightroom specifically.
