My interests include programming, photography and music (guitar), but I've only been able to make money as a professional programmer.

comment If shooting in RAW and processing, why still care about WB?
I agree. It is mostly laziness, because it saves post-processing time. Additionally, it makes sense to measure WB when lightning conditions are weird or abnormal and Auto just doesn't cut it, but you care about preserving the exact colors you are seeing. (Example: summer landscape right before or after a decent storm with purpleish hue in the sky)

comment Advice on storing and organizing exported files alongside RAW files
I like the approach you take - getting rid of exports as soon as they reach their destination. Also keeping exports in the same root folder for easier backup is something that makes a lot of sense. I think I should do the same and use LR as primary storage for originals. Thanks!

Historically - because I started using LR only a few weeks ago, but I've been organizing my files the way I described it for years. I don't have anything against the grouping feature. I imagine this is why it's even there. The question rather should be - why even export files to JPG? Maybe I should rather generate high def full size previews and only keep RAW? What is the 'best' LR way of achieving the same goal - ease of presentation, with minimum effort?

I am trying this out - but right now I am traveling and my catalog is set to remove previews automatically, so I don't have any. But yes - I know this is easy to try out.

comment Which photoshop book?
Why books? Have you tried online tutorials? There are many websites with step-by-step instructions, sample files to practice with etc. Try: psd.tutsplus.com From my experience - there is little that can be found in a book that you won't find online. Also, youtube videos, Adorama Learning Center etc.

That's what I thought when I saw the image you attached, which most likely came from the same website I linked.
