I believe you don't see exposure indicator while you are in Aperture or Shutter or any scene mode. You only see this in manual mode.

@Michael:As you suggested I did my test again and this time using CDAF but I don't see much difference from PDAF in terms of sharpness.So is it right to say that this is the maximum I can get from 18-105 mm lens?

Thanks for your suggestions. I am not sure whats the intent of setting the focus to infinity? and you mean to do this in CDAF?

No I havn't tried contrast detection yet.But will give it a try.

so if I have understood you right, say I am trying to underexpose sun rise,I can either play with Shutter speed,ISO aperture or can simple dial in a -ve EC value?
