comment 50mm stuck on the body
If the lens is prone to getting stuck like this, I'd not care about saving it, I'd be more interested in disposing myself of it and upgrading to something better made.

comment What is ideal distance to subject for head and shoulder portraits?
Also, see this comparison of the same portrait framed from different distances. I have to agree that the shot taken from 18 feet away looks the most correct. The shot taken at 2.5 feet makes the facial proportions look unnatural in comparison.

According to Ken Rockwell, the ideal minimum distance for any type of portrait shot is fifteen feet.

comment Are there digital cameras with a RGBW sensor?
The most unusual sensor arrangement I can recall was the Foveon X3 Sensor which had the RGB sensors stacked on top of each other so that each point on the sensor face detected all three colours. Very appealing idea, and it was used in several camera bodies, but I don't believe it gained much ground.

comment Is there a well-known way to store a taxonomy hierarchy in XMP, IPTC or EXIF?
The only way to have a hierarchy structure managed centrally would be to use a database system which maintains the structures in a single table, so that the hierarchy structure could be reorganised with ease. But this is not how metadata in image files works, because each image file stands alone. If you change the way you want the hierarchy structured, you have to update the metadata in every image file one after another. Using XMP sidecar files will reduce the time it takes to make such updates, but you then run the risk of separating the image file from its metadata file.
