Cropping is removing unwanted portions of an image from its edges. This may be done to remove distractions, improve composition, reposition the main subject. It is often necessary to crop in order to change the aspect ratio of the image to fit the desired output. For example a 3:2 image printed at 8x10" (5:4 ratio) must be cropped to avoid uneven borders.
