I received this old Minolta along with a lot of other camera related stuff that some friends weren't able to sell at a garage sale. I'm not really interested in using it, but I'm curious as to why the mirror is stuck like this. If I press down that little black tab sticking up, it goes down, but you can't make it stay.

This will be nearly impossible to diagnose via the web based on a single picture... At best this can only lead to tons of speculative answers about the cause which you won't be able to confirm without disassembling the camera further, and in the majority of cases you won't be able to fix yourself anyway. Take it to a camera shop. Have someone look at it and give you a diagnosis and/or a quote for repair... – Jay Lance Photography Jan 9 '11 at 1:03

Hypothesizing about what could be causing this is not beyond the possible (albeit far beyond my own capabilities). Someone could take a stab at this; a definitive answer, certainly, would only be forthcoming from a repair shop that could see the camera itself. – David Jan 17 '11 at 16:52

I had this camera. It has this trouble with the mirror, once in a while it stucks at the top. What I did was manually moving it down and then it clicks and stays there.

Note, however, that this is a useless item. Wasn't good at the time, now worth nothing, not even a collector's item.
