I captured video with my canon 550dslr and have saved the files to the computer hard drive but one file - the largest, 2.2GB - won't copy and save. I can play it on the camera, though. Any suggestions?

I don't have a solution but you might want to check battery level if you are transferring from the camera via usb. Then try it using a dedicated memory card reader instead of the camera. As Russel said, more information might help narrowing possible problems. – Alendri Aug 15 '12 at 11:11

More information would be useful. What sort of computer and what operating system are you using?

You may be a victim of the filing system type used on your camera card. If it is formatted with the FAT file system it would explain the problem. Even a FAT32 file system - which is commonly used on some cards, can enforce a 2 GB maximum file size if the programmer is not suitably careful.

You MAY be able to download the file using another more capable computer.

The various Windows file systems set different maximum file sizes.

  • FAT allows 2 GB maximum file size.

    FAT32 allows maximum 4 GB file size

    NTFS allows files up to the current partition size .

+1... I work in IT by trade so reckon the 2Gb limit may well be it. Ensure the drive you're copying to isn't using FAT... – Mike Aug 15 '12 at 11:27
@Mike - alas even FAT32 has a 4GB limit and all it takes is a somewhat careless programmer and you have a 2GB limit. – Russell McMahon Aug 15 '12 at 11:46
