Photography Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional, enthusiast and amateur photographers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm looking for a paid photo and video hosting site that provides unlimited storage and unlimited video length and is above all FAST for uploads and photo management.

Additional features of interest are: ease of photo gallery customization, ease of integration with other apps and services.

But the most important features are simply: unlimited and fast.

Some providers that I'm considering are:

  • phanfare
  • zenfolio
  • smugmug
  • mejuba

Do you need a pre-setup site, or are you willing to set up software yourself (e.g. pick a web hosting company and run a Gallery instance)? –  drewbenn Jul 15 '12 at 22:41

I'd cross smugmug and zenfolio off the list. With those sites, you're paying for ecart management when you won't be using it. Smugmug does have a lot of plugin support though... –  AndyML Jul 16 '12 at 5:18

Fast, Unlimited, Free. Pick any two. –  Fake Name Jul 16 '12 at 8:32

@FakeName: They did... Fast + Unlimited. The OP stated that they are looking for a paid site. –  forsvarir Jul 16 '12 at 11:11

To really achieve this you need a dedicated server, a web developer, and an unlimited budget for storage space on that server. This isn't realistic for most people, so you need to compromise on the speed (All services offering 'unlimited' storage are overselling capacity which affects your speed). –  Tom Brossman Aug 29 '12 at 7:10

Smugmug is as fast to upload as my connection allows. You can also upload directly from Lightroom which makes it easy and fast. It is also unlimited. I have 60GB of photos and video uploaded right now.

Can you better define your "speed" requirements? How much data per session and how fast is your upload speed? I typically will upload 700 full resolution images after a wedding, but my upload is just a standard cable Internet connection so it still takes 2 hours or so. I typically do this overnight just for ease.

Smugmug (the basic version) definitely fits all your criteria, and personnally I like the way the galleries are displayed. They have a decent API, so for example I wrote a script that I use to automatically backup all of my photos, since you have unlimited hosting. I use Linux and therefore Digikam, and it has smugmug plugins for upload.

You can set up public or private galleries, and password-protect whatever you want.

With smugmug you can even set up galleries that allow other people to upload photos. Say if you take photos of an event, you can share the upload link around so that every participant can add their photos to your gallery.

Photoshelter, Smugmug, flickr, 500px.

flickr and 500px have free accounts with limits and paid accounts that remove limits and add features such as statistics.
