I have installed the Canon Digital Photo Professional, which came with the T2i\550d.

Can DPP create an HDR Image from 3 RAW Images? If not, is there a good, free software for that?

Looks like version 3.11.10 of Canon DPP introduced HDR of three images. Here is the manual (see p.81 for the HDR feature) and here is a review of the feature.

If you decide to look elsewhere for HDR software, then this page reviews five free packages. According to them on the easy but less powerful side there is Picturenaut, and on the harder but more feature rich side there is Luminance HDR with the others in between these two.

The only product from their list that I have used is Luminance, and I agree with the reviewer there that it can be a bit intimidating at first. When you are not familiar with the different tone mapping algorithms your only choice is to follow a tutorial (like this one or this one) that gives you recipes to obtain certain looks.

I doubt it. Did you check your version number? You need 3.11.10 or newer. The Canon USA site offers 3.11.31 for the T2i/550D. Go to usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/… to get it. – Miguel Jul 8 '12 at 7:49

I take a lot of HDR shots handheld. Many times it is simply impossible to align the shots. I obtain the best results using Magic Lantern's bracketing, which takes all pictures back to back after a single shutter click. – Miguel Jul 8 '12 at 16:43
