I previously owned Canon EOS Rebel G, but after taking photos at Florida beaches, the humidity destroyed the camera. I am ready to buy another camera.

Based on my research I am thinking about buying a Sony NEX 7 with a decent lens (rather than the kit lens). Do you have any other suggestion other than Sony NEX 7, priced around $1,800?

Also if I do get Sony NEX 7, what would be the best lenses to get to take outdoors and night pictures with vivid and bright colors?

It's hard to offer any intelligent feedback without understanding your requirements or wants. What led you to this camera? Why do you think it would be better than, say, a Rebel T3? More detail is required. – Dan Wolfgang May 14 '12 at 0:15
@Dan It is basically based of reviews I read. I am not saying Sony Nex 7 is better than others. I came here to ask what other cameras I should consider before buying the Nex 7. I am open to suggestions. – Cory May 14 '12 at 0:19

This question is not constructive because "your answer is provided along with the question, and you expect more answers"; see the FAQ. – DragonLord May 14 '12 at 0:39
Hi @Cory. Have you seen the FAQ? You could get a Nikon D7000 , a 35mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8, and a 85mm f/1.8 for slightly over your budget (1900ish). There's a whole range of options. We would have to know way more about your requirements before recommending. In general though, this feels either 'not constructive' for DragonLord's comment, 'too localized' because its an answer likely to only effect you as written, or 'not a real question' because we don't have nearly enough information as is. I'll let the community weigh in for a bit though. – rfusca May 14 '12 at 0:59

If the sand and humidity ruined your last camera, perhaps you should have protection from them as a major criteria for your search. – Pat Farrell May 14 '12 at 12:42

I'd start with the Sony 16/2.8 pancake if your budget is firm.

If your budget has some flex in it, I'd go for with Sony 24/1.8, instead.

And then just use it to take photos. After 6 months or a year, buy a second lens based on your new experience.
