So mirrors make you look so big, and some mirrors don't. And they only thing that actually tells you your volume of you body, is the human eye! So, If i took a picture Would it show me, what other people see my as? I'm girl, 12 year old. And i really can't tell. But my mom took a picture of me, and in that picture i was normal, so is camera considered an eye? please reply!

Hi Charlynia. From a camera point of view, a few previous questions might cover what you're looking for: How to capture the scene exactly as my eyes can see? and maybe How does the human eye compare to modern cameras and lenses?. But I think your question has a lot more to it than just the camera aspect. In our society, we're surrounded by images of beautiful human bodies. Most of these are, in fact, highly manipulated. ... and more. (I'll try to dig up some more links for you.) All of this creates a whole lotta pressure, and it's basically all based on visual lies. But your mom is not likely to be doing any of that. Studies show that most people — teenagers and grownups and all — worry a lot about being "normal", and generally have a much more negative view of their own body than other people do. Don't worry about it too much — eat healthily (not scantily — just healthily), get plenty of exercise, and you will certainly be normal. – mattdm Jun 21 '11 at 15:05

No more so than a paintbrush or a canvas could be considered a human eye. The camera and lens are tools used by the photographer to create an image, so a camera just paints a picture according to the instructions of the photographer. This image may then be further manipulated with editing software, so the final product becomes a function of the vision and execution of the photographer (whether he/she realizes it or not).

In addition, since the images that all of us see every day are functions of our brains as much as they are our eyes, the perception you're talking about depends not only on how the photographer recorded and edited an image, but on the interpretation of each and every viewer of that photograph.

In short, there's just no way to make the sort of generalization you're talking about.
