Do all compact cameras now allow turning-off any unnecessary noise, like shutter sounds and startup sounds?

I mean cameras like Panasonic Lumix, Canon IXUS, Canon Powershot, Nikon Coolpix, etc, and noise which is deliberately played rather than being caused by motors etc.

I imagine some cheaper cameras occasionally leave off options like this, but I'm not sure searching for examples is really practically useful. Wouldn't it be better to just double-check that any camera you're actually interested in has the ability to be silent? – mattdm May 21 '11 at 13:13
