What are the advantages and disadvantages of using F-mount lenses?

I know that they are designed for wide sensors, that is up to 1". They also have many features that make them very good quality lenses optically (low edge distortion, image stabilization, etc.).

The lenses i'm working with are C or CS mount. The sensors are 1/3" , 1/2" with C or CS mounting. I am unhappy with their optical quality at the edges of the pictures, so I'm thinking about moving to F-mount lenses.

Can F-mount lenses solve my problems?

Can you clarify what the "F-Mount" is? Unfortunately Nikon's mount is called that too which makes it hard to search for the term. – gerikson May 9 '11 at 11:52

This question is about video cameras, which we've generally determined to be off-topic here. That keeps the focus on still photography. If you're interested in having a place on Stack Exchange for this kind of question, please follow this proposal: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/2797/… – mattdm May 9 '11 at 12:09

The F-mount in question is Nikon's F-mount. See schneideroptics.com/info/faq/industrial.htm#qu6 – mattdm May 9 '11 at 13:18
@mattdm thanks for that information! – gerikson May 9 '11 at 14:43
